Leicester City can start the Premier League season with minus points

Winning the Championship title was certainly only the first hurdle in Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League. This is due to re-emerging claims that LCFC will potentially start the EPL season with minus points. On this occasion, an expert weighs the eventualities. Foxes of Leicester also take a look at ‘shock’ news of a former City boss expected to be appointed manager of the Romania side.

What a manager O’Neill was for the Foxes! Trust me, I was a season ticket holder during that time. And it was only really bettered by the unparalleled 2015/16 Premier League triumph under Claudio Ranieri. Then there was the Brendan Rodgers era which brought back the FA Cup and European competition. Although, it has to be said that Rodgers’ time on Filbert Way also gave the Blue Army plenty of headaches.

Back to O’Neill. He is also well known for being the boss at Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest. The Northern Irishman has also managed the Republic of Ireland national team.

Now 72, he is said to be “closer to a return” to football. This time Romania will benefit from the only City gaffer, namely Rapid Bucharest. O’Neill was thought to have retired from all football activities until Rapid called. FoL wishes him all the best if the rumors turn out to be reality.

Ownership of LCFC and its sporting director are it is assumed working on a new business for Enzo Maresca. Let’s hope it’s true. It would be one less thing for us Foxes fans to worry about. Keeping Maresca at the club seems much safer than betting on a new boss, regardless of reputation. I am very keen to see what the Italian cooks up for Leicester in the English top flight.

However, Maresca did not allay supporters’ fears over Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall possibly leaving the East Midlands side when he was asked about the impressive midfielder most recently. Unfortunately, the 44-year-old admitted that Dewsbury-Hall’s exit remains a possibility.

But issues of financial fair play (now called profit and sustainability, apparently) are probably the main concern for the LCFC faithful today. Let’s hear what former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness had to say about the issue:

“Leicester have ongoing lawsuits against the Premier League and the EFL. I still don’t understand the timing of these and when they will arrive. As I understand it, they could start next season with a points deduction. I don’t know if they will appeal.

“There are too many loose ends at this point to make definitive statements or provide guidance on this. It’s another messy situation created by a large gray area in the rules. For Leicester, at least they are promoted. I’d rather be in that situation than argue the case in the championship. I am in a position of strength. They have the riches of the Premier League to help pay for these wonderful lawyers we are becoming so well known for.
