Mojdeh has the PH swimming team’s first medal at the ASG

(UPDATE) BRENT International School-Manila standout Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh delivered the country’s first swimming medal at the 13th Asean Schools Games on Tuesday night in Da Nang, Vietnam.

Mojdeh, the Philippine team’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony, lived up to her high standard after winning the bronze medal in the girls’ 100-meter (m) butterfly.

The World Junior Championship semi-finalist clocked one minute and 4.0 seconds to match her bronze finish in the same event at the 2019 Asean Schools Games held in Semerang, Indonesia.

“It was a tough one. I just fell short. I’m looking forward to the 200m (butterfly) and I hope to make it,” said the 17-year-old Iranian Filipino.

Mojdeh was just a hair’s breadth behind Thai swimmers Kertsriphan Thitiphon and Loehajaru Nutthanica, who took the top two spots.



Thitiphon won gold in 1:03.29, while Nutthanica won silver in 1:03.99.

Mojdeh still has a chance to return to the Thai betting in the 200m butterfly on Thursday – on the eve of his 18th birthday on June 7.

She wants a shining gift for herself and the country.

“I want to get that (200m butterfly) as a perfect gift for myself and also for our country. I will do my best to make it happen. I just need to stay focused to achieve my goal” , Mojdeh added. .

Mojdeh will compete for another medal in the 200m individual medley final scheduled for Wednesday evening.

She clocked 2:29.52 in the preliminary round – good enough to earn a spot in the final.

“I would like to thank my parents for always supporting me and my coaches Sherwyn Santiago and Jeremiah Paez, as well as Coach Jerricson Llanos, my strength and conditioning coach,” Mojdeh said.

In other results, Santiago City-Isabela National High School’s Joaquin Taguinod climbed to fifth in the boys’ 100m breaststroke (1:06.70), as well as Renielle Jan Mikos Trinidad of Calayan Educational Foundation Inc.-Lucena City, who finished fifth. in the boys’ 100m butterfly (58.03).

For his part, Paulo Miguel Labanon of Mapua-Mindanao placed eighth in the boys’ 200m freestyle with a time of 1:58.97.
