Bruno Tonioli ‘to quit Britain’s Got Talent’ and comedian tipped to replace him

Bruno Tonioli is rumored to be considering leaving Britain’s Got Talent, with Alan Carr a possible replacement. The 68-year-old former Strictly Come Dancing judge, who joined the ITV talent show at the start of 2023, replacing David Walliams, sat on the panel alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon for two series.

However, reports suggest that due to his international commitments, Bruno’s stint on the show, which recently concluded its 17th series, may be cut short. Britain’s Got Talent is currently undergoing a massive £100m makeover, which includes a change in filming dates, which is causing a clash with Bruno’s schedule as he is also judging Dancing with the Stars.

A source revealed to The Sun: “Once it became clear that auditions were starting in October, as opposed to January as in the previous series of 17, it became clear that Bruno might not be able to take part.” They continued: “They are committing to the US but the new format for BGT is non-negotiable as the show will effectively replace Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.”

While Bruno was a hit with both the judges and the public, his potential exit could open the door for Alan, 48, who was reportedly in talks with Simon Cowell about a judging role before Bruno to be elected. Alan has worked with fellow BGT judge Amanda Holden on BBC travel shows in the past, The Mirror reports.

A source revealed that ‘talks have only just started’ but dropped a hint that Alan Carr could join the panel saying: ‘Alan Carr is a name that has been mooted – his chemistry with Amanda is already a winning formula – and would bring a fantastic comedic edge to the panel.”

The Sun reports that a final decision is expected within weeks. ITV, Britain’s Got Talent and Bruno Tonioli’s representatives have been contacted by The Mirror for comment.

In a change from its regular schedule, the revamped series of Britain’s Got Talent will air later in the year, replacing the slot currently held by Saturday Night Takeaway.
