Sharon Osbourne lends her name to cancer appeal ahead of general election – South London News

TV personality and Brixton resident Sharon Osbourne has put her name to an open letter calling on the next government to do more to save lives from cancer.

She joined forces with interior designer Kelly Hoppen and actor Jimmy Akingbola to make the public request.

As polling day fast approaches, the London trio, plus other celebrities, have signed a letter from Cancer Research UK urging all party leaders to make the general election a turning point for people affected by the disease.

Sharon, whose husband is former rock star Ozzy Osbourne, is a colon cancer survivor herself, Kelly is a breast cancer survivor, and Jimmy lost his brother Segun to the disease.

Highlighting the need to tackle cancer waiting times, unequal access to diagnosis and treatment and an estimated £1 billion funding shortfall for life-saving research, the letter urges party leaders to make cancer a manifesto priority their.

The charity says a long-term cancer strategy for England is needed to help transform survival rates.

Sharon Osbourne championed the cause on X.

Cancer Research UK says that with around half a million cancer cases a year projected in the UK by 2040 – of which around 48,000 could be in London – the need for people in the city to speak up is clear.

They said: “We are grateful to Sharon, Kelly and Jimmy for their support. They understand all too well the devastating impact of a cancer diagnosis.”
