Liverpool LIVE transfer news: Michael Olise ‘rival interest’, Joao Neves boost, Adrian decision

Cody Gakpo has reflected on his decision to turn down two Premier League clubs before joining Liverpool, revealing he has left his future in God’s hands.

Gakpo spoke to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, but according to ESPN Netherlands, that move fell through due to FFP issues at Old Trafford.

He was also wanted by Leeds and Southampton and left his decision up to fate. “You have a difficult decision to make and then you go to prayer to talk to God and ask for wisdom. I get that,” Gakpo said.

“People might think I’m strange. I could go to Southampton, Leeds entered the race and PSV wanted me to stay. I presented God with the three options I had.”

Gakpo based his decision on his performance against FC Volendam in August 2022, revealing: “If I scored once, I would go to Southampton. If I scored twice I would go to Leeds and if I scored three I would stay at PSV. I couldn’t have a clearer sign.”

The 25-year-old would go on to score a hat-trick but had to wait until after the game for confirmation after one of his efforts deflected off an opposition defender.
