Liverpool transfer news: Reds ‘consider’ Brazilian goalkeeper on demand

Liverpool are among several European clubs monitoring Athletico Paranaense and Brazilian goalkeeper Bento Matheus ahead of the summer transfer window.

Following Jurgen Klopphis departure and now under his leadership Arne SlottLiverpool are expected to assess their squad requirements for next season in the coming weeks.

Current first choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker has been linked with a potential high-value move to Saudi Arabia, while the back-up stopper Caoimhin Kelleher he was rumored to be considering a move away from Anfield in search of more playing time.

In a recent interview with The AthleticKelleher admitted: “It would be great if something like that happened at Liverpool, but I’m not stupid. I’ve known Ali has been the best goalkeeper in the world for years. I had such a great time at Liverpool. It was a crazy ride for me and one that I absolutely loved.

Liverpool will rival European giants for Bento’s signature

Should the Irishman leave Merseyside this summer, Liverpool will almost certainly need to find a suitable replacement and report from Sports area suggests that Bento has emerged as their leading candidate.

However, the report adds that the Reds are likely to face stiff competition to secure the signature of the Brazil international, with AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan all showing interest in the 24-year-old goalkeeper.

Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, are eyeing the Brazilian as potential competition for Jan Oblakwhile the AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has been linked with a move away from Serie A this summer.

Bento is gaining fans after an impressive season

Bento enjoyed an excellent 2023 season with Furacao, making 26 appearances in all competitions, keeping an impressive 13 clean sheets and conceding just 16 goals.

Over the last year, his consistent performances have earned him a call-up to the Brazil national team alongside Alisson.

Bento made his senior Selecao debut in a friendly against England in March and is expected to be included in Brazil’s squad for the upcoming Copa America.
