South Pasadena police went to the duplex in the 800 block of Brent Avenue. Firefighters pronounced the death of the woman, who had several stab wounds.

The medical examiner’s officer had not yet publicly identified the woman, but sheriff’s officials said she was in her 70s.

Detectives have not yet determined a motive for the stabbing and are still searching for the weapon, said Lt. Michael Modica.

“It does not appear to be a theft-related offence,” he said.

There appeared to be no signs of forced entry into the home, according to a city release.

“South Pasadena detectives and the Sheriff’s Department have been working tirelessly to find out what happened. Our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends,” said South Pasadena Police Chief Brian Solinsky.

“She doesn’t move that much, but she waters the flowers,” said a neighbor, who identified himself only as James, adding that she is very cute.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the case to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tipsters can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or at lacrimestoppers.org.
