Double Olympic champion Helen Glover, from Cornwall, has been named in Team GB’s rowing squad for Paris this summer.

The British Olympic Association (BOA) today announced the forty-two rowers who have been selected, in ten boats, to represent Team GB at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Of the 23 women and 19 men, 50% are making their Olympic debut and 50% are returning Olympians. They include double Olympic champion Helen Glover, Tokyo 2020 silver medalist Tom Barras and Team GB’s only brother and sister Tom. & Emily Ford.

Glover trained in the South West, was born in Truro and won a sports scholarship to Millfield in Somerset.

He then studied at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff, then University College Plymouth, where he did his PGCE and taught in Bath, while taking part in Team GB Rowing’s Start program at Minerva Rowing Club.

Helen Glover previously told us: “It’s a lot of long miles, but I’m getting as strong and fit as possible right now.”

Glover added: “I’m really grateful for all the support I’ve had from Cornwall, every time I’ve been to the Olympics I’ve felt like I really want to represent Cornwall as it’s a big part of me.”

Other rowers from the South West who will represent Team GB include Jacob Dawson of Leander Club and Plymouth ARC, Chloe Brew of Leander Club and Plymouth ARC and Becky Wilde of Leander Club and Bath University BC.
