June proclaimed Senior Month in Simcoe County

PRESS RELEASE
SIMCOE COUNTY
**************************
Principal Basil Clarke has proclaimed June 1-30 Seniors Month in Simcoe County.

“According to the 2021 census, 20% of the county’s population is over 65, a number that is expected to almost double over the next 20 years,” said Cllr Basil Clarke. “That’s why Simcoe County continues to create regional long-term care services, senior services, senior-friendly programs and affordable housing options. This includes funding nearly 350 projects through our senior housing grant program, along with investments in initiatives such as affordable housing for seniors and the redevelopment of our new Simcoe Village campus.”

This year’s theme is Work for seniors. In recognition of the extraordinary efforts of our older adults and businesses that have helped create more accessible and welcoming age-friendly communities, residents are encouraged to nominate deserving individuals for an individual recognition award for business or for individuals. The nomination period closes on June 30 and full details can be found at simcoe.ca/agefriendly.

Staff in the county’s long-term care homes and senior services facilities will focus their programming on promoting independent, active and healthy engagement activities that support seniors to live their lives to the fullest. The full list of activities can be found on our website.
