Fire in central Birmingham sees five fire crews called to a ‘serious’ blaze in the early hours of the morning

Firefighters spent almost 90 minutes tackling a “serious” blaze in the early hours of this morning (June 6) after a blaze broke out in a residential area near Birmingham city centre.

At around 2am, five fire engines from West Midlands Fire Service raced to the scene in Washwood Heath, where a group of buildings at the back of properties were alight.




Birmingham Live understands there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the fire, which tore through a “garage/workshop area” behind residential properties on Washwood Heath Road.

The flames at the scene were finally extinguished at 3.13am. The extent of the damage is not yet clear, firefighters are still monitoring the scene.

Investigations are currently underway into the origin of the fire and potential damage to surrounding buildings after five fire crews from West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) brought the blaze under control.

The public were first alerted to the fire just minutes after the emergency services were alerted, WMFS warned X after the fire broke out: “We currently have 5 fire engines attending an incident in the area of ​​Washwood Heath Road of Washwood Heath Birmingham’.
