Crysencio Summerville transfer news: Leeds United update as Chelsea favorites with £35m price tag

The big transfer departure dominating the summer for Leeds United is sure to be the future of star player Crysencio Summerville. After winning the Championship Player of the Season award, the 22-year-old Dutchman is a man in demand, with a number of clubs linked with a move for the player.

Leeds United’s financial position after missing out on an immediate return to the Premier League means they are expected to have to sell one of their prized assets to remain compliant with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with Summerville being likely departure given the type of clubs that have been linked, making it difficult for the player or Leeds to turn down a good offer.

A move for Summerville had been expected for weeks and even if Leeds had won promotion to the Premier League, there was still a chance the winger would have moved on this summer. With so much speculation about what’s to come, we’ve looked at what we know so far and rounded up the latest.

Chelsea favorites to sign Summerville

Chelsea have a new manager at the helm in Enzo Maresca, with the arrival of the former Leicester City boss only increasing the likelihood of a bid coming in the next few weeks from the Blues. Maresca knows all too well about Summerville’s ability, seeing it almost in the race for the championship title and automatic promotion last season.

Chelsea have been linked with Summerville for several weeks, identifying the Dutchman as a player they can add to the squad without having to pay the staggering sums previously paid by club owner Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital. More than £1bn has already been spent on transfers since Boehly’s arrival, with five managers also out the door since his arrival four years ago.

Summerville would fit perfectly into Maresca’s favored 4-3-3 system, with the deal making even more sense now that the managerial appointment has been made.
