Former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper joins Gainsborough Trinity – The Linc

Former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman has joined Gainsborough Trinity as first team and goalkeeping coach.

The club announced on their website on June 5 that the former Owls player will join Russ Wilcox’s backroom staff ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 Northern Premier League campaign.

A mainstay at Hillsborough:

Pressman played almost 500 games for Wednesday during a 17-year spell at Hillsborough. He left the club in 2007 and went on to make a number of appearances in English football before his retirement.

After hanging up his boots and gloves, he began training. The 56-year-old gained a UEFA A coaching license in 2007 and has since worked at clubs including Scunthorpe United, Millwall and Grantham Town.

Crossing to Northolme:

Pressman left his role as goalkeeping coach at Grantham last year and returns to coaching alongside Wilcox, with whom he has worked before.

He explained: “I worked with Russ at Scunthorpe and Northern Ireland and have always kept in touch over the years. I bring a lot of experience from my playing career, the Premiership and my involvement with the England seniors.”

The move to the KAL Group Stadium means the former Owls goalkeeper will coach Josh Render, who came through the academy ranks from Wednesday.

Manager Wilcox added that the appointment was a “massive blow” to the Holy Blues.

He said: “I am absolutely delighted to bring Kevin Pressman to the club as goalkeeper and first team coach…His knowledge, experience and know-how to continue the work will be invaluable to everyone from the football club.”

The reshuffle means both first team coach Darryn Stamp and goalkeeping coach Jamie Bradley leave Trinity at the end of their respective contracts. Stamp served as player, assistant and interim manager for various spells with Gainsborough.
