Warriors fan born on Cup Final day to be Wembley mascot

In 2013, Wigan Warriors beat Hull FC 16-0 at Wembley Stadium, but one fan – Lauren Sutton – missed all the action after going into labor before kick-off.

Despite being overdue, Lauren traveled to Wembley in the hope of seeing the Warriors lift the Challenge Cup, but went into labor shortly before kick-off and missed the final.

This year, Lauren will be making the trip again, this time with her daughter Amber, who was born at Northwick Park Hospital on the final day of the 2013 Challenge Cup weighing seven kilos and one ounce.

With the help of club chairman Chris Brookes and chief executive Kris Radlinski, 10-year-old Amber will be a mascot at this weekend’s Betfred Challenge Cup final as Wigan Warriors take on Warrington Wolves.

Season ticket holder Lauren, said: “Everyone thought I was mad when I made the decision to travel to Wembley for the 2013 Challenge Cup Final because it was the due date, but my passion for Wigan Warriors is in my blood – so I gone !

“The drama began when Amber decided to make her way into the world just before kick-off and was born just hours later in the hospital.”

She added: “We are a Rugby family and we are all attending the game on Saturday so it will be extra special with Amber as a mascot.

“Amber has developed her own passion for the Warriors, she attends most games and always carries her sharpie when she visits Robin Park in case she sees one of the players signing her shirt.”

Amber was lucky enough to have her picture taken with the Betfred Super League, League Leaders, World Club Challenge and Wheelchair Super League trophies last week when she visited the Robin Park Arena.

“In Amber’s words, she is ‘so excited’ and it really is a little girl’s dream come true. I would like to thank everyone at the Club for making this possible for Amber. Good luck to Wigan and I hope we can bring home the trophy like we did in 2013 when I brought home my little Wigan Warrior.”
