This June, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka is participating in the participateACTION Community Challenge, a national physical activity challenge designed to encourage Canadians to get active in pursuit of Canada’s most active community.

The Community Challenge allows anyone, including organizations, to track the number of minutes they spend being active in their communities in hopes of earning the title of “Canada’s Most Active Community.”

Throughout the month of June, the Y is offering free daily passes on Saturdays to encourage residents to be active and promote health and wellness in the community. At the Y, you’ll find a wide variety of activities for all ages, including open gym, family swimming, lap swimming, fitness classes and more. There are different schedule options available at each YMCA and residents can find their local YMCA schedule at www.ymcaofsimcoemuskoka.ca/schedules.

In June, the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka Health, Fitness and Aquatic Centers in Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland and Wasaga Beach will track the average minutes of movement of all members and visitors, and these numbers will be added to determine the total of each community. Members and participants will be encouraged to record their own activity outside of YMCA facilities as well. The community with the most minutes of movement will receive $100,000 to support local sport and physical activity initiatives.

“We are excited to offer the community free access to our health, fitness and aquatic facilities every Saturday in June thanks to the generous support of ParticipACTION,” said Karen Pulla, vice president of health, wellness and community impact at the YMCA of Simcoe. /Muskoka β€œThe YMCA believes that everyone should have access to quality health and wellness opportunities that help them grow and develop – physically, emotionally and socially. to be and bond with friends, family and neighbors at the Y,” Pulla added.

Residents can get their free Saturday membership by visiting their local YMCA health, fitness and aquatic facilities in Collingwood, Gravenhurst, Innisfil, Midland and Wasaga Beach or online by creating an account and using the code ACTION2024.
