Police officers swooped after man seen shouting and damaging cars on Smithdown Road

A man was arrested after police officers were allegedly assaulted.

Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service were called to Smithdown Road, near Asda, in Wavertree at around 9am on Thursday 6 June. It followed a report that a man was spotted damaging cars and shouting at people.




The man then entered a property on Thorney Croft Road. When emergency services arrived at the property, he threw several objects at officers in the flat.

Police arrested the man, suspected of assaulting police officers, before he was taken to hospital for medical evaluation and taken to a police station for questioning. Huge emergency services were at the scene, including dozens of firefighters and police.


The police, forensics and an incident commander were also called to the scene. A cordon was put in place near Thorney Croft Road and Smithdown Road southbound was closed from Wellington Avenue to Gainsborough Road while emergency services dealt with the incident.
