A Londoner killed in a two-car crash that led to charges against a 21-year-old man was just minutes from his parents’ home, his grieving partner says.

Brent Henshaw, 48, died on May 2 after two vehicles collided around 6:45 p.m. on Pigram Road, near Salford Road, in southwest Oxford, south of Ingersoll, a stated Oxford OPP.

Henshaw died at the hospital, police said.

Henshaw was on his way to visit his mother, who had just been released from the hospital after finishing her shift at Max Solutions in Guelph, where she worked as a plant manager for the packaging company.

“He was three minutes (distance) from his parents’ house,” Jenn Rimmer, Henshaw’s partner, said in a message to The Free Press.

“It’s incredibly unfair how quickly life can change, leaving us struggling to come to terms with a reality we never imagined.”

Last week, police announced that Jacob Slegh, 21, of Beachville had been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death in the crash that killed Henshaw. Slegh is scheduled to appear in court next month.

Henshaw is remembered as a family man, a “true example of kindness” and a consummate professional with a strong work ethic.

In his spare time, Henshaw enjoyed camping and the outdoors, always enjoyed a good whiskey and was “hooked on golf”. He also enjoyed cooking and barbecuing for family and friends, Rinner said.

“Brent was the most down-to-earth person I’ve ever met,” she said.

β€œHe had a passion for food and creating his own recipes. . . He had more smokers and charcoal grills than one person could handle.”

Among other relatives, Henshaw, who was born in London and grew up in Mossley, is survived by his 22-year-old son and 12-year-old stepdaughter.

A celebration of life in his memory will be held at Dorchester Golf and Country Club on Sunday.

“Our hearts ache when we remember the beautiful memories we shared together,” Rinner said.
