Yorkshire construction company moves to Manchester amid expansion

Yorkshire construction firm Big Red Construction is relocating its headquarters from Huddersfield to Manchester.

It said it reflected an evolution of its business following significant investment in the company and a number of senior hires.

BR2.0 will offer end-to-end real estate solutions throughout the development; construction; and asset maintenance, under the ethos of “Development. Delivery. Maintain.’.

The company, which was founded in Huddersfield in 2016, will move its headquarters to Ducie Street in Manchester, a city where the company has seen prolific activity in recent years.

BR2.0’s development arm, Xpercity, will have immediate access to a significant war chest capable of funding its development pipeline.

Big Red Construction said it would leverage its extensive renovation and new build expertise on major sites across the north to deliver a quality product.

The company’s maintenance arm, Inspired, will act as part of the asset maintenance and project management business. Together, these three business components bring together three entities, Xpercity, Big Red and Inspired: Develop, Deliver and Maintain.

Mike Lomas, founder and chief executive of the group, said: “The way we have structured BR2.0 allows us to retain control over a project in its entirety, which means we have better oversight of location, time and quality construction.

“Using the vast expertise of our teams, we can create inspiring long-term developments, helping to regenerate cities, address housing needs and unlock capital for funders.”

He added: “The establishment of Xpercity and Inspired alongside Big Red is a step change for our organisation, opening up significant opportunities for large development sites.

“We aim to build on the significant success we have seen over the past few years with the growth of Big Red. We take a hands-on approach to property development, ensuring that investors and financiers can realize their returns with confidence, while maintaining a strong social purpose, which is at the heart of our group of companies. Having a strong and positive social impact will be at the heart of what the business seeks to offer in its portfolio.”

As part of its significant expansion efforts, the company wants to deliver 750 residential units per year by 2030, rapidly increasing its headcount during that time.

To achieve its ambition, the company, through its subsidiary Xpercity, has already secured over 175 development sites in Manchester and is actively seeking new development opportunities to add to its expanding portfolio.

The move to Manchester will involve approximately 32 staff initially based in the new offices, which cover approximately 4,500 square feet. The company is looking for new strategic development opportunities in the North and Midlands.
