Closed Moseley restaurant reopens for one night to sell ‘leftovers’

A Moseley restaurant which closed last month is to reopen temporarily to give locals the chance to buy a bottle of wine from its cellar. French restaurant Le Petit Bois opened its final service on Moseley’s Alcester Road on April 27.

Restaurant owners Ben Taylor and Zsofia Kisgergely are opening the restaurant on Friday, May 10 from 4:00pm to 6:30pm to offer customers the option to take home one of its wines. “If you’re feeling the urge to drink something delicious this weekend, pop in and pick your favourites,” they wrote to followers on social media.

Options include red, white and rosé wines from France, as well as a Hungarian Balassa from Tokaj. They are priced between £14 and £50, although it’s worth moving quickly if you want to reserve some as there are a limited number of each and the venue says “only a few bottles left”.

Ben and Zsofia operated Little Blackwood from the same premises for three years before closing due to the pandemic. The pair relaunched as Le Petit Bois in October 2021.

Chef Ben has announced that the two AA Rosette restaurants will change the way they operate earlier this year, moving to a French bistro-style set menu in response to rising ingredient costs and difficulties securing staff. At the time, Ben said: “The cost of ingredients going up is a factor. By doing this, I will also have less waste on a Saturday night.

“Another main reason is I don’t think you can say the UK has four more seasons. Some of the best food the UK grows has four to six week seasons, so that gives me so much flexibility depending on the weather.
