The Newquay menace has been banned from the town center for years

A Newquay man who kicked a police officer in the chest has been banned from the town centre. Desire “Jim” Cassambo, 56 and of no fixed abode, was previously jailed for theft and assault.

As well as assaulting a police officer, Cassambo stole around £133 worth of meat from shops and threatened to stab a member of staff. He was given a Criminal Behavior Order (CBO) by Bodmin Magistrates’ Court, which has been in place for three years.

Det Insp Guy Blackford said: “Newquay’s neighborhood team applied for the CBO alongside the criminal charges because of the impact his behavior had on the town. Cassambo admitted in court to five offenses that took place on April 17.

He added: “This behavior will not be tolerated in our community. When Cassambo is released from prison, the police will work closely with partner agencies and local businesses to enforce the order and ensure that crime does not continue.”
