Details have emerged of the huge search operation which was launched after TV doctor Michael Mosley went missing on holiday. The Just One Thing expert, who is famous for his 5:2 and Fast 800 meal plans, went missing while hiking on the Greek island of Symi.

His wife, Dr Clare Bailey, 62, raised the alarm after he did not return at 7.30pm on Wednesday and local authorities began tracking the route overnight but were unable to locate him. The Daily Mail reported that by midday on Thursday, every emergency service in Greece had been deployed by local authorities to find Dr Mosley.




Reports suggest that the Greek coast guard is checking the coast of the seas and firefighters are searching the forests and hills of the remote island. A search and rescue team using drones was also sent to the scene. A police source told the Mail: “We are focusing on the area of ​​the road we believe Michael may have taken from the beach at Ayios Nikolaos to Pedi, but because it has been so long since he disappeared, we I extended the search to other people. parts of the island.

“There are currently four police officers, eight firefighters, a drone and seven volunteers involved in the operation.”

A community Facebook group in Symi appealed for information and uploaded a photo of Dr Mosley in shorts, a blue polo shirt, baseball cap and sunglasses. They wrote: “Have you seen this man? He set off to return from St Nick’s at about 1.30pm and failed to make it home. His friends are worried as it has been 6 hours since they last saw him. His name is Dr Mike Mosley and he is a familiar face to many Brits as he appeared on the BBC.

“The police and coast guard have been informed that EMAK, the island’s rescue team, is also involved.”

The main police spokesperson, Constantina Dimoglidou, told the Daily Mail: “He was on the beach in Ag. Nikolas with another couple when he decided to return to his home in the Pedi area of ​​Symi. It was around 1.30pm and he forgot his phone at the beach. All attempts to find him were unsuccessful.

Local police said they were informed on Wednesday of the “disappearance of the 67-year-old British national on the island”.
