Prince William visits his homelessness project in Newquay

Prince William visited Fistral Beach in Newquay on Thursday after earlier seeing the site of the Duchy of Cornwall’s first homeless housing project.

The prince met and played volleyball with young lifeguards before posing for selfies with members of the public.

He also signed the cast of a nine-year-old boy.

Earlier, he visited the site of a project of 24 houses for the homeless on the duchy land at Nansledan.

The boy who signed the cast, Phoenix, broke his arm falling from a swing and was given advice by the prince.

Phoenix said: “He said, ‘You have to be careful. Next time, wait properly.”

The Prince also took part in an impromptu game of volleyball with young lifeguards from Holywell Bay and Newquay surf lifesaving clubs and watched them train.

He then met members of the RNLI patrolling the beach.

“Opportunities for advancement”

In the morning the Prince visited the Nansledan site where he spoke to Max Hedges, who has been supported by Cornwall homelessness charity St Petroc’s.

Afterwards, Mr Hedges said: “He was basically asking me about the impact that St. Petroc had it on me, as a resident of supported houses, and I explained that I am not talking about the support I received.

“I’m so for these houses and it will give people like me opportunities to progress like I did and somewhere to live.”
