Leicester City to cash in Boubakary Soumare after loan from Sevilla

Leicester City will look to sell Boubakary Soumare this summer, with loanee Sevilla struggling to afford their €15m buyout option, according to Spanish outlet ABC (via Sport Witness ).

Leicester City have signed French midfielder Soumare from LOSC Lille in the summer of 2021 following his impressive success with the Ligue 1 club.

His time with the Foxes did not go as hoped, making 59 appearances in two seasons before his loan move to Sevilla in Spain following their relegation to the Championship.

Soumare’s spell in Spain was a success though. He played 31 times in all competitions, locked down a place in the starting XI and caught the eye amid their off-field struggles.

Now, fresh claims have emerged over his summer transfer fate, with Sevilla holding an option to make his loan permanent.

Spanish outlet ABC claim the La Liga side will not be able to afford their €15m option to sign Soumare. As such, he will return to Leicester City, although the club will opt to cash in on his impressive loan deal.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

A great summer awaits you

It has been known for some time that this summer will be an important one for Leicester City. That was the case whether or not they were going to win promotion.

The Foxes have finally returned to the Premier League as Championship champions, but will still need player sales in their bid to raise funds. Even then, it looks like a points deduction awaits ahead of the season.

Some key assets may be sold as a result. However, departures for fringe players like Soumare will give the club a way to raise funds, possibly limiting the number of big stars who have to leave.

A permanent exit for the Frenchman may not raise huge funds, but even at the reported €15m option to buy, it would be a welcome boost if another side paid that amid struggling Sevilla.

What could it have been?

With Sevilla – especially in recent weeks – Soumare has shown some traits of the star man he had become with Lille. It was performances at Leicester City that caught the eye, but in the end you are left to wonder what could have been with the Foxes career.

While Maresca could still see him as a player who could have a place in his side, it seems unlikely.

Having spent this season on loan, it looks like Soumare will be an ideal player to take advantage of in an attempt to raise funds. His recent form could also add to his price tag, something Leicester will certainly welcome as they prepare to part ways with a number of players this summer.
