Arberlour, Talisker and Jack Daniel’s whiskey all cheaper than Tesco in Amazon’s summer sale

As the weekend approaches and the threat of a heat wave looms over our horizon, there’s always one thing you can enjoy: whiskey. The wonderful caramel spirit is literally made on our doorstep, but often comes with a price tag of over £40 for even the simplest bottles.

That is until Amazon hosts a huge sale on their whiskeys including Talisker, Jack Daniel’s, Lagavulin and Arbelour. All are currently cheaper than Tesco, three of them even cheaper than their Clubcard offer. And you don’t have to leave your house, which might be a bonus.

The best deal is at Aberlour for £29.99 down from £45, cheaper than Tesco (£41.50, £33.50 with Clubcard) and Waitrose (£35, down from £45.25 ). This deal is so good that I bought a bottle before I even started writing this article – and I’m not alone as it’s the best selling whiskey at the moment and also on most wish lists.

Arberlour is matured in sherry casks, making it more distinctive than your standard single malt. Expect a fruity aroma mixed with licorice, ginger and cinnamon, and that fruit carries over on the nose.

You’ll also be able to taste rich chocolate and caramel – it’s the whiskey you want to whip out after a meal, as a nightcap or when you really want to enjoy a drink. Another one of my favorites is also on offer: Talisker Skye Single Malt.

It was reduced to £27 from £48, beating Tesco (£48) and Master of Malt (£43.90). Talisker is an easy drinker – making it slightly dangerous when you suddenly drop four or five drams – and is characterized by sweet, citrus flavors cut with a rabid smoke.

All you need to enjoy this is a splash of water – don’t mix this with anything, it won’t be needed. The flavor is in the bottle.

Meanwhile, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel – which is their foray into luxury whiskey – has dropped from £47 to £34.50. This is cheaper than Tesco (£47 or £35 with a Club card) and Sainsbury’s (£47 or £35 with a Nectar card).

According to JD, they are so special that only one in 100 casks is considered good enough to be bottled. Like most American spirits, it’s best drunk on the rocks and will offer vanilla and caramel, before being lifted by a peppery spice.

Finally, Lagavulin is also discounted but not as much as Tesco – coming in at £48.83, beating the non-Clubcard price (£52.50) but not the Clubcard (£42). So this is one if you want free shipping. Aged for eight years, this is the second most wish-listed whiskey.

It combines the smokiness with the scent of tea with the predominant sweet taste. This is best enjoyed with a splash of water to unlock the flavors.
