An 18-year-old man trying to elude police crashed a vehicle into a Sheffield Lake residence on May 31, according to a news release from Sheffield Village Police Department Capt. Ryan Sayers.

At 3:44 a.m., a Sheffield Village Police officer attempted to pull over a white 2014 Jeep Compass traveling northbound on Abbe Road for excessive speed.

The driver failed to comply and fled, leading police on a short chase that entered Lake Sheffield, the release said.

Once the vehicle entered Sheffield Lake, the Sheffield village officer in charge terminated the pursuit.

The vehicle continued north on Abbe Road, crossed Lake Road onto a residential street and crashed into a home, causing extensive damage to the garage.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by the Sheffield Village and Sheffield Lake Fire Departments before being airlifted to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center with serious injuries, the release said.

The man, whose identity is not being released by either the Sheffield Village or Sheffield Lake police departments, was “in stable
state”, at the time of transport to the medical unit, the release states.

The Sheffield Lake Police Department said it could not release the suspect’s name because he has not been charged.

The crash remains under investigation by the Village of Sheffield Police Department, the news release said.
