West Midlands Police have arrested three people on suspicion of fraud after officers from their traffic unit spotted a car in Coventry yesterday (8 May) suspected of being used in crimes across the country.

The Mercedes AMG was seen on London Road at around 12.15pm. Traffic officers were able to stop the car to prevent a pursuit.

A 20-year-old man and two 18-year-old men were arrested from the car on suspicion of fraud and remain in police custody.

The men are suspected of defrauding an elderly woman of more than £70,000.

Chief Inspector Becky Barnsley, of the Roads Policing, said: “We proactively patrol the roads and motorways in our region to disrupt the criminals who use them, regardless of where in the country they have committed their crime.

“Keeping the roads safe and preventing criminals from using them is our priority.”
