A futuristic farming project in Cornwall has received £1.63m of government investment through the UK’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

The grant builds on Phytome Life Sciences’ groundbreaking work in the emerging field of botanical medicine development and will be used to expand the infrastructure supporting its portfolio of research programs.

The project will be run in collaboration with Duchy College Rosewarne and the University of Plymouth, leveraging their expertise to expand the UK’s position as a world leader in agricultural and plant science innovation.

Phytome CEO Dr Sebastian Vaughan said: “This grant is validation of our vision, team and ground-breaking research taking place at our high-tech rural campus.

“It demonstrates the Government’s desire to support innovative technology companies to accelerate the emerging revolution in agricultural biotechnology and prescription botanical therapy. With government approval, we are well positioned to expand our innovative phytobiotechnology platform, which has broad implications for the sustainable production of high-value bioactives beyond prescription drugs.

“We are grateful for the support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and look forward to working with Duchy College and the University of Plymouth to drive this transformative initiative.”
