Leicester City parade recap – Foxes crowned champions as thousands line city center streets

Leicester City are champions of the Championship and the celebrations continued this afternoon.

City confirmed their place at the top of the table with a , which sparked scenes of celebration among the 5,700 traveling fans. They returned to the King Power Stadium on Saturday as they took on Blackburn Rovers, where players and staff had the chance to get their hands on the trophy for the first time in front of a sell-out crowd.

The party continued on Sunday with an open-top bus tour of the city, where fans were able to watch the band parade, including Jamie Vardy and coach Enzo Maresca. The celebrations saw City become the first club to win the second tier of English football eight times, overtaking Manchester City.

It also marked a return to the Premier League at the first asking after last year’s relegation. After the bus tour, the players headed to the Haymarket balcony to raise the trophy again.

It was another memorable occasion, just like the celebrations in 2014 and 2016. That’s how the day unfolded – and don’t forget to relive it on Wednesday on Monday.

What an afternoon

Amie Wilson joined the crowds downtown for today’s parade and loved every minute of it.

She wrote a wonderful article about the afternoon.

“The Clock Tower is one of the iconic venues in the center of the wonderful city of Leicester, so where better to have our latest party?

“For the third time in ten years (it would have been four if it weren’t for Covid, meaning one for the FA Cup was not possible), the city came together to celebrate its football club’s latest achievement.

“Just a year on from the disappointment of relegation, Leicester City fans deserve to celebrate what has been a memorable season under Enzo Maresca. And they certainly did.”

The day before yesterday

On a day that started with Khun Top visiting the statue of his late father Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha outside the King Power Stadium, Leicester City’s clash against Blackburn Rovers had just about everything you could want on the final day of the season, writes Josh Holland.

The football game itself offered very little. Blackburn came out fighting for the mere fact that City may have an eye on lifting the trophy, but there was very little action. Sammie Szmodics scored twice for the visitors, but that didn’t dampen the mood.

For City, the day wasn’t just about the football, and the 30,000-plus home fans who packed the stadium made the most of their day of celebration.

The club’s montage of this season’s success on the big screen set the pace before Union FS’s spectacular tribute to Jamie Vardy before kick-off was an emotional bonus to the afternoon. ‘190 Thank you will never be enough. Jamie Vardy, Leicester’s greatest read the banners in the East Stand and the Kop stands alongside a picture of the striker.
