Live: Croydon fire updates as ‘explosions heard’ on high street

Emergency services rushed to Croydon High Street after “a fire broke out in Croydon High Street”. It appears to have happened opposite the Vue cinema, off St George’s Walk.

The area has been used by homeless people sheltering in recent months. The fire broke out at 5pm this evening (Thursday, May 9), according to local reports.




A video of the incident shows smoke billowing from the scene. The London Fire Brigade is responding to the incident.

Footage shows a large police presence at the scene.

It is not clear exactly what happened, but what appear to be burn marks are visible on a building.
