The trees will go as part of a major makeover at the traffic-hit Nuneaton junction

Trees are to be cut down as part of a major makeover of a traffic-hit Nuneaton junction. New traffic signals will be installed at the Heath End Road/Greenmoor Road junction with pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities.

As part of this, Warwickshire County Council plans to remove a total of three street trees. These are two mature lime trees on Heath End Road and one on Greenmoor Road.

“The proposed tree removal is unavoidable in order to achieve the proposed improvements to the junction,” Shire Hall said. “Warwickshire County Council engineers and arborists have worked on the design to minimize tree loss and provide a junction that meets the highways authority’s requirements.

“Various options were considered to mitigate the loss of the three trees, which included altering the proposed alignment, but to achieve an alignment that meets safety and design standards, the trees that fall within the proposed alignment must be removed.”

It is explained in the plan that an alternative location, on Greenmoor Road, 20 meters away, where trees will be planted to “compensate for the loss”. “Funding has been set aside for the planting of these trees and proposed to undertake replanting by April 2026,” the plan explains.
