Birmingham Airport queuing chaos as ‘doctor treats two people for hypothermia’

Passengers traveling through Birmingham Airport are facing another day of long queues outside today (June 7), with claims suggesting two people have been treated for hypothermia.

Chaos and confusion broke out at the airport when queues began to emerge from the departure doors in the early hours, while hcountless people waited to get inside to start their vacations. Some showed up more than three hours before their flights to be prepared for long waits, only to find themselves miles away from the departure gate.

West Midlands leaders are being urged to step in and manage the situation unfolding after further disruption. A tweet by @DrSimonCMP said: “I’m usually British so not a natural crier but this is a fair bummer @bhx_official I’ve just treated two people for hypothermia.”

Another frustrated passenger, @BiteYourBrum tweeted: “Yea Birmingham airport is an absolute disaster. I’m glad I came three hours early now. I can hardly see the departures, but there are hundreds in front of me just to enter. Oh, and if you come by monorail. they’ll just send you out to join it, what fun @bhx_official”.

The author, Vanessa Heggie, expressed her concern saying: “I can understand why the social media person at the airport went into exclusive broadcast mode rather than actually responding to all but silence from (West Midlands Mayor) Richard Parker , Birmingham City Council and other local people. Bigwigs is deafening. Nobody cares.

When contacted about the long queues at the airport yesterday, an airport spokesperson said Birmingham Live: “Had a typical busy morning with customers queuing in unfamiliar areas.

“The queue was long and thin in parts, but it moved quickly through the terminal. Although our new security hall is operational, we still have ongoing construction work on site and are awaiting regulatory approval to allow liquids up to two litres. to be carried in hand luggage.

“This construction work will continue for the foreseeable future as we redevelop the airport as part of our planned and previously announced £300m investment.”

Birmingham Live provided updates on the situation inside the airport this morning. A passenger @Biteyourbrum said: “The queue is now snaking 3/4 lines outside but I managed to get into the building. By M&S arrivals.

“Ok, so once inside and up, it’s a little faster, but not by much. I got from the elevators through security and into the departure lounge in 50 minutes. So in total it was about 1 hour 40, for anyone wondering about the (early) flight from here at the moment Peace out x.

“Side note: the way some people talk to airport staff who are just doing their job is disgraceful. And boomers are by far the worst for it. Yell at the same people who are trying to help. Behave.”

Blogger @biteyourbrum posted about her experience at the airport this morning. She said: “For context, they (photos show both directions) wind around the building. I can hardly see Departures, but there are hundreds in front of me just to get inside.

“Oh, and if you come by monorail, they’ll send you out to join that, of course. What fun. And I can’t stress enough how derelict people are. They complain relentlessly, I feel incredibly sorry for the 3 girls they have out. trying to calm people down. No hyperbole, this is the worst I’ve ever seen.
