A series of overnight diversions will be in place for the next three weeks on a section of Sheffield Parkway as essential bridge repair work takes place at the Handsworth Road junction.

The planned works, which will be carried out at night to minimize disruption to drivers, will take place in two stages:

Sunday, June 9: 18:00 – 04:00 – lane closures in both directions during preparatory work, including the removal of barriers and curbs.

Monday 10 June and Tuesday 11 June: 20:00 – 06:00 – lane closures will be in place on both sides of Sheffield Parkway.

Friday, June 14: 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m – Sheffield Parkway will be closed entering Sheffield at the Prince of Wales junction for the installation of a counter-flow system to allow the old surface to be removed.

Saturday June 15 – Sheffield Parkway will be open to motorists but with temporary speed restrictions

Sunday, June 16: 20:00 – 06:00 – Lane closures towards Sheffield until the contra-flow system is removed.

Monday 17 June and Tuesday 18 June: 20:00 – 06:00 – lane closures will be in place in both directions of Sheffield Parkway.

From 20:00 Friday 21 June to 6:00 Monday 24 June – A counter-flow system will be installed in the exit direction.

Monday, June 24 – Friday, June 28: 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m – closure strips will be applied in both directions to allow curbs and barriers to be replaced.

Access to the Asda superstore on Handsworth Road will not be affected by the works, although the access ramp to the petrol station will be closed throughout.

While the overnight works are helping to keep disruption to a minimum, traffic in the area is likely to be heavier than usual and delays can be expected during peak hours. Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel.
