Liverpool have sent Pep Guardiola an exit message following the Man City boss’ end-of-season comments

With Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool in search of a quieter life and a break this summer, it may not be long before there is a change at the biggest sporting rival of his tenure at Anfield .

Pep Guardiola would have been even more dominant in the Premier League had it not been for Klopp, and while Manchester City’s economic advantage is a big part of that, Klopp was also quick to point out that his Catalan counterpart is a extremely influential figure, regardless. That meant so much to Guardiola that he cried – but there were hints that he too could be leaving soon.

“The reality is I’m closer to leaving than staying,” Guardiola said at the end of the season. “It’s been eight years, it’s going to be nine. Right now, my feeling is that I’m staying next season.”

By the end of the upcoming campaign, it is hoped that the 115 Premier League charges hanging over Manchester City will be clear. But regardless, the feeling is that this could be Guardiola’s last year, even if there will be contract talks.

“I would be more surprised if Pep stayed for another five years than if he decided next season would be his last,” former Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce said this week, via the MEN.

“He is without a doubt the best manager the Premier League has ever seen and I for one would be disappointed if he left. When I went to City on the rare occasion he showed me a level of football that I’ve never seen him before.”
