Manager reacts to links with Manchester United star, admits he wants to sign ‘best’ players

The manager did not mention the Manchester United man by name.

But amid claims his side have made a bid for one of Erik ten Hag’s FA Cup heroes, the manager’s comments will do little to quell speculation suggesting an Old Trafford exit could be on the cards this season summer.

The big question, however, is whether Manchester United will sell. They may have to, of course.

One of the many dilemmas facing Ineos in a difficult first summer at the helm is the future of Aaron Wan-Bissaka – as is the case with so many other managerial signings. red devils – remains shrouded in uncertainty.

Man United triggered the 12-month extension clause in Wan-Bissaka’s contract last season. But with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, there are only two options that can be taken if United are to avoid losing their £50million man on a free transfer later on.

Either, commit to handing Wan-Bissaka a long-term deal. Or, I’m selling it from now until September 1st.

Manchester United face Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s decision

Galatasaray are obviously hoping United opt for the latter. According to Turkish publication Fotomac, the Super Lig champions have tested the waters with an opening bid of £8.5m. An offer that Manchester United refused.

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk added fuel to the speculation shortly after those reports emerged, confirming that a right-back is a must following Sacha Boey’s January departure to Bayern Munch.

“Our president has authorized us to sign the best,” Buruk tells Sporx. “We will buy the best players possible. We will (sign) very important players. Very important transfers.

“A right back will be signed very urgently. We are thinking about players who will support the attack line. We have identified very important players and (and) we will make transfers that will make the fans very happy so that everyone is comfortable.”

Galatasaray and Inter Milan have been linked so far

Galatasaray are not the only league champions to question Man United’s Wan-Bissaka.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Serie A holders Inter Milan have held talks with the former Crystal Palace player, who moved to Manchester in 2019 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The The red devils He is understood to be listening to offers of around £10m, just £1.5m more than Galatasaray would have offered. Inter, meanwhile, are willing to agree an initial three-year deal worth £50,000-a-week at the San Siro for Wan-Bissaka.

Despite those ongoing links with Bayer Leverkusen speedster Jeremie Frimpong – who scored one and set up another during Thursday’s 4-0 rout of Canada – obvious successors for Wan-Bissaka are few and far between.

He may lack Frimpong’s speed and attacking intent. But arguably no right-back in Europe is as effective in one-on-one defensive situations and against elite strikers. Wan-Bissaka helped shut down Manchester City’s superstar attack during that FA Cup final triumph two weeks ago.

And – for all his faults – he remains a very useful asset for a club looking for silverware.

Man United won both the FA Cup and the FL Cup under Erik ten Hag and Wan-Bissaka was arguably United’s best defender in both wins at Wembley.
