Can you afford to buy a house?

Unlock Editor’s Digest for free

Over the past two years, the cost of renting in the UK has behaved unusually, rising strongly in parallel with the cost of housing for owner occupiers.

For renters, rising rents would have prompted them to make the first move on the housing ladder, buoyed by the prospect that interest rates could start to fall later this year.

But for some, the higher costs of home ownership versus renting are a tough pill to swallow at a time of tight personal finances.

FT Money is keen to hear from readers who are faced with the ‘buy or rent’ decision and what it means for them. Please email [email protected] and we will keep your message confidential.
