Jamie Vardy is signing a new contract with Leicester to earn another shot at the Premier League

Jamie Vardy is back in the Premier League.

The veteran Leicester City goalscorer has agreed a new one-year contract with the club. Vardy, 37, who joined the Foxes in 2012, will have the chance to complete his fairytale spell with the East Midlands club with another chance at the big time.

The former England international has amassed 136 goals in the top flight – and needs another nine to overtake Robin van Persie, who sits 14th on the Premier League’s all-time list. The former Stockbridge Park Steels non-leaguer appeared to have added a fitting epitaph to his career at the King Power Stadium when he fired them out of the Championship.

Vardy bagged 18 goals – becoming the club’s top scorer – as Leicester bounced back from their relegation. And for that he was rewarded with another 12-month extension – lifting the gloom surrounding the Foxes following the defection of boss Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.
