South Leeds Life will invite all candidates to state their reasons for running and we plan to hold an online meeting where you can ask them your questions.

Voting takes place on Thursday, July 4. To vote you must be on the electoral register by midnight on Tuesday 18 June.

If you are already registered to vote, you do not need to register again. If you need to register, you must now do so online here: www.electoralcommission.org.uk/. You will need your National Insurance number and the process only takes a few minutes.

Polling books, which include details of which polling station to use, have been sent to people who are already registered. A second batch will be sent on Monday, June 24. You can still vote if you don’t have a voting card or don’t take it to the polling station, as long as you are registered.

This will be the first general election held in which voter ID will be required by everyone wishing to vote in person at a polling station on polling day. Guidance on the forms of identification that will be accepted and how to apply for a new free voter ID can be found at www.gov.uk/voting-photo-id. Community centers and libraries in Leeds will be able to help voters complete the application form, including taking a photograph. The deadline to apply for a certificate of voter authority (free voter ID) is Wednesday, June 26 at 5 p.m.

The deadline for registering to vote by mail is Wednesday, June 19, at 5 p.m., via www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote.

The deadline to register for a proxy vote, if someone is attending the polling station on your behalf, is Wednesday 26 June at 5pm via www.gov.uk/apply-proxy-vote.
