Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in talks with Premier League club as former Man Utd boss closes in on sensational comeback

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER could be set for a sensational return to the Premier League as new Leicester City boss.

And Solskjaer has confirmed he is keen to take on the challenge of keeping the Championship winners in the Premier Division.

The Manchester United legend is highly regarded by Leicester City chairman Top Srivaddhanaprabha and narrowly missed out last summer when he was axed by Enzo Maresca.

The Old Trafford legend has since turned down several managerial offers – both at club and international level – after being sacked by United in November 2021.

Solskjaer took over the Old Trafford central seat from Jose Mourinho on a domestic basis in December 2018 and was confirmed as United’s permanent boss in March after leading United to 14 wins in their first 19 games.

United finished third in Solskjaer’s first full season in charge and reached the FA Cup and Europa League semi-finals.

The following season, the Reds finished as runners-up to Manchester City – United’s first top-four finish since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson – and lost 11-10 on penalties to Unai Emery’s Villarreal in the European final League.

Despite being rewarded with a three-year extension to his contract, Solskjaer was sacked in November in his third and final season with United seventh in the Prem.

He was linked to the Canada head coaching role before Jesse Marsch was named last month.

But the 51-year-old is now keen to return to managing the club after being narrowly edged out by former Rangers boss Giovanni Van Bronckhorst for the Besiktas job earlier this week.

Leicester turned their attention to Solskjaer after another candidate, Maurizio Sarri, made it clear he was not interested in the job.

However, Solskjaer is desperate to find another challenge in charge in the Premier League and would not be deterred by Leicester’s potential points deduction for breaching PSR rules.
