Brandon Williams sends an emotional farewell message after a 17-year stay at Manchester United

Manchester United announced their retained list earlier in the week and one man set to be released as a result is Brandon Williams.

Manchester United academy graduate Brandon Williams has become the latest player to be released this summer. This comes after the more notable releases of Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial along with another academy graduate, Charlie McNeill.

Williams spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town, where he helped them to promotion, but did not do enough to convince United of his merits to stay at the club.

After being released, Williams took to Instagram with a heartfelt message for the club and fans.

Brandon Williams’ emotional farewell from Manchester United

Days after it was announced he would be leaving, with United confirming the retained list, Williams has now delivered an emotional message to the fan base and the club he has been a part of for most of his life.

The 23-year-old took to Instagram with a video compilation of himself in action at various youth and first-team levels for United and accompanied it with an emotional message.

“Always hoped I wouldn’t have to make this post, but here we are. Since the age of 7, this Manchester United football club has been part of my life from the cliff at Carrington day in and day out.

“But to be able to make lifelong brothers, I want to thank my teammates, especially those with whom I have shared the last 17 years.

“Thanks to the staff, kiches, maintenance workers, security and physios I could go on and on, you’ve all been amazing and of course the coaches.

“Then most importantly, THANK YOU, the fans, the backbone of the club, for whom we work so hard to be able to perform at the highest level, because you all deserve it.

“Watch this space! OVERANDOUT (hello emoji) Once a red Always a red (devil emoji)”.

Brandon Williams’ Manchester United career record

Despite not making it to United, Williams is still a very talented footballer who we expect to go on and have a successful career at a solid level.

Despite spending two loan spells at Norwich and Ipswich, Williams managed an impressive amount of appearances for United worth over half a century.

Williams made 51 first-team appearances for United, scoring once and assisting once in that time. He has also represented United strongly at every youth level, making him a player we all wish would have made it here.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he broke through and we will always remember those displays during the 2019/20 season when he replaced Luke Shaw.
