Car theft in Sidmouth sparks yellow shirt police hunt

Police investigating a burglary in Sidmouth where a car was stolen have launched an appeal to trace a yellow shirt.

Devon and Cornwall Police said detectives investigating a reported car theft are appealing for help to find the clothing, believing a suspect dumped it in Babbacombe, Torquay.

Detectives are investigating a report of a burglary where a car was stolen from a property in Sidmouth, East Devon, on Saturday 1 June. The vehicle was later found in Torquay, South Devon.

Officers are keen to trace the shirt after three men were arrested in the area on Thursday June 6.

A police spokesman said three men had been arrested on suspicion of theft and drug-related offences. They currently remain in police custody while inquiries continue.

Detectives believe a bright yellow or high visibility T-shirt was thrown by one of the suspects in the area of ​​Babbacombe Road and Hoxton Road in Torquay.

Police have urged anyone who finds the brightly colored top to call 101, where they will be given advice on how to keep the shirt.

Detective Sergeant Ed Mitchell said: “Following the arrest of three people in the early afternoon of Thursday June 6 on suspicion of theft and drug-related offences, detectives from South Devon and Exeter CID are appealing to residents in the Torquay area between Babbacombe Road and Hoxton. Road, near Brewery Park, be on the lookout for clothing suspected to have been discarded during an incident.

“We are interested in locating a yellow T-shirt which is believed to have been worn by one of the suspects prior to his arrest.”

He added: “Advice can be given by call handlers on how to handle any items of clothing found, but it is requested that anyone who finds similar items of clothing should avoid contact with them unless it is to prevent loss or imminent damage’.
