A man has been arrested after a pensioner was knocked unconscious in an unprovoked attack in south London.

Police issued the appeal after the 75-year-old victim was attacked on Whitehorse Road on January 23.

The man was walking on the road with his wife at the time and was left with “physical and mental trauma”, DC Matthew Southwold previously said.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

He was taken to a south London police station, where he remains. Inquiries are continuing, Scotland Yard said in a statement on Friday morning.
