Hidden Gem: DeYummy – Magazine Exposed

Sheffield’s first full-service Ukrainian restaurant opened at the bottom of The Moor in March, offering a menu full of authentic, home-cooked Ukrainian dishes.

Since opening, the restaurant has been making Sheffield residents enjoy Ukrainian food, as well as helping our thriving Ukrainian community enjoy a piece of home.

Co-owner Angelina, who moved to the UK just over a year ago and now runs the restaurant with her mother, who handles the cooking duties, told Exposed: “Ukrainian cuisine is very versatile and we want to show why we like. so much for bringing a piece of Ukraine to your plate.
“We are very proud to present a place where we speak the language of Ukraine through our taste and soul.”

On the menu, you’ll find plenty of authentic, home-cooked food, as well as traditional Lyiv coffee imported from Ukraine. Dishes include steamed dumplings called Golubtsi, Ukrainian dumplings called Varenyky, and of course Chicken Kyiv, which is definitely not what you’ll remember from the frozen, supermarket version of your childhood!

Angelina, who is still completing her university studies while running the restaurant, moved to the UK just over a year ago. She told Exposed: “My hometown was destroyed in March 2022, just weeks after the war started. My apartment was only seven miles away from occupied territory, so I lost everything.
“As well as introducing Ukrainian food to people here in Sheffield, the other aim of the restaurant is to help my dad feel more at home as the life he had before is gone.
“The way I see it, I could be here crying about what’s going on, but I have to live my life. Even if it’s not in Ukraine, I have the opportunity to do something great here in England.”

DE Yummy can be found on Cumberland Street no. 8 and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
