Girls State Track and Field Championships first day 2024

Pine Bush senior Madison Williams posted season bests en route to winning the long and triple jumps on the first day of the New York Federation girls track and field championships in Cicero.

Williams went 19 feet, 6 inches in the long and 41 feet, 9 ¼ inches in the triple – she had advanced to the Federation finals on Saturday in both. A year ago, Williams took silver at the Div. Me and Fed long jump and bronze in both Div. Fed and I triple. She is the first gold medalist for Section 9 since Malaika Palacios of Pine Bush (Div. I) and Cora Butler of New Paltz (Div. II) in 2013.

Warwick senior Lily Beattie cleared 11 feet, 9 inches to win the Federation and Division I pole vault. A year ago, Beattie didn’t have the height.

Marlboro senior Juliana Juras won the Div. II discus at 135 feet, 11 inches and placed third in the shot at 38 feet, 9 ½ inches. She won the Div. We discussed a year ago and the third in the Fed portion.

Our Lady of Lourdes senior Alexandria North captured the Div. II 400-meter dash in 56.03 seconds, advancing to Saturday’s Fed finals. She also placed second in the Div. II 200 meters preliminaries, advancing to the morning final.

Kingston junior Daniella Johnson took second in the Div. We threw power, advancing to the Fed final.

Federation finishes (including the New York Public Schools Athletic Association, New York Public Schools Athletic League, Catholic High School Athletic Association, and Independent Schools Association) are listed:
