Police have arrested a man in connection with an incident at a hotel in Hayle.

Armed officers were called to reports that a man claiming to have a gun had threatened members of the public at the Premier Inn in Loggans at around 1.30am on Thursday 9 May.

Superintendent Jim Saunders, the tactical firearms commander for this incident, gave this statement:

“We dispatched armed response officers to the scene where the man said he had no weapon and had barricaded himself in the room.

“Police negotiators attended to provide support along with Force Support Groups, Dog Unit, Response Units, Drone Team and colleagues from the Fire and Ambulance Services.

“This was a limited incident and there was no wider risk to the public.

“At 11.30am a 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and making death threats. He remains in police custody.

“Searches and inquiries are ongoing at the scene but at this time no firearm has been found.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience while I attended the area this morning.”
