‘Shameful’ Audi thieves hit ‘secure’ Birmingham car park as people say the same

“Shameful” Audi thieves hit a “secure” car park in Birmingham after a £40,000 car was looted and left on the bricks. BirminghamLive readers branded the incident “disgusting”, while others claimed: “You’re safer leaving your car on a public street.”

Shocked James, 57, who was in the city visiting friends, returned to find the carnage at the NCP block of flats on Newhall Street in the Jewelery Quarter on June 5. The A3 limousine had its windows broken, the console cut… off and the steering wheel stolen.

James shared images of the car park’s secure entrance which appeared to be cracked, meaning it was accessible without a QR code. Reacting to the story on Facebook, one reader posted: “Shameful thieves so if you work hard you can’t afford a car.” Another person labeled the theft: “Disgusting.”

Another person wrote: “This should be a pretty secure car park, you can’t get in without a ticket, you have to scan your pass or day pass to get in, they would definitely know who can’t and what cars they remained in that period.”

But someone else said: “It’s not secure at all – anyone can get in and out.” Another social media user claimed a Range Rover was stripped last week. He added: “You’re safer dumping the car on the public street.” West Midlands Police said they were investigating the theft and requested CCTV from the car park “in an effort to identify the offenders”.

An NCP spokesman said: “We take all crime in our car parks very seriously and work hard to try and stop people entering our car parks for reasons other than parking. We are very sorry that this incident happened while the customer was parked on our car. Unfortunately, crime is a problem that we, and all businesses that have buildings open to the public, try to prevent.
