The striker, who is leaving Leeds United, is wanted by Sheffield Wednesday and three other Championship clubs

Four of Leeds United’s Championship rivals are lining up a summer move for Ian Poveda. The winger’s spell at Elland Road is set to end this month.

Poveda will leave the Whites as a free agent after the club opted not to renew his contract. The Colombia international is on the lookout for a new club, having been on United’s books since 2020.

Poveda spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. He flourished under the tutelage of Danny Röhl as the Owls pulled off one of the greatest escapes in league history.

South Yorkshire sources confirmed on Wednesday that they want to re-sign Poveda on a permanent basis. His eye-catching performances in the Owl colors quickly endeared him to the fan base. Injuries limited Poveda’s involvement to 10 matches.

But Wednesday are likely to face stiff competition for Poveda’s signature this summer. Luton Town, West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City are all big admirers of the player.

A move to the Hawthorns would reunite Poveda with Carlos Corberan, with whom he worked briefly at United. Big things were expected of Poveda after he joined the Whites in January 2020.

However, Poveda struggled to make an impact, making just 30 first-team appearances in total for United. He slipped down the pecking order for a starting place and was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool.
