Katherine Jenkins looked beautiful in yellow as she sang the national anthem at the Women’s Challenge Cup final between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The Welsh opera star, 43, stunned in an off-the-shoulder floor-length dress as she took to the pitch.

Katherine, who is the best-selling classical artist of the century, performed at the Royal Albert Hall to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day the day before.

Favorites St Helens thrashed Leeds Rhinos 22-0, the first time a women’s team has been “written off” since 2012, when the cup began.

St Helens have now won the Betfred-sponsored Cup four times in a row, equaling the record set by Thatto Heath Crusaders, who are also based in St Helens.

In May, it was announced that Katherine would join forces with film legend Sir Anthony Hopkins to make the Handel biopic The King Of Covent Garden.

Katherine is executive producing the film, and fellow Welshman Anthony plays George Frideric Handel.

Handel was a German-British composer born in Germany in 1685 and who died in Westminster in 1759.

He wrote operas, organ concertos, oratorios, including Messiah in 1741, and four coronation hymns, one of which, Zadok the Priest, was performed at every British coronation since 1727.

The King of Covent Garden, to be directed by Andrew Levitas, will focus on the creation of Handel’s Messiah.

Katherine will also be involved as a musical advisor on the project as well as future marketing efforts.

The film is handled by Embankment Films, who are also responsible for the international sales of Anthony’s The Father.

The Father earned Anthony his second and final Best Actor Oscar in 2021, following his first for The Silence Of The Lambs in 1992.

Embankment described The King Of Covent Garden as a “powerfully majestic celebration of genius that breaks all the rules to create an anthem that inspires the popular imagination of a global audience”.

Tim Slover wrote the film, and Dan Lupovitz and Kevan Van Thompson will also produce, with Peter Touche (Military Wives, The Son) serving as executive producer.

In a statement, director Andrew said the film’s story will be based on “an unlikely pair who meet at their lowest points and together create a magnificent ‘sound for the people’ never heard before: the revolutionary masterpiece Messiah, the annual worldwide bestseller for almost 300 years”.

He said Tim’s script “is populated by passionate, real-life experience in all its color and grime, creating a compelling human story with surprising contemporary relevance, universal human connectivity and spiritual upliftment.”

The King Of Covent Garden will be released sometime in 2025.
