Leicester confirm Iheanacho’s exit — Sport — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Leicester City officially confirmed on Friday that Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho will leave the club this summer.

The Foxes wrote on their official website: “Kelechi Iheanacho has also left Filbert Way, ending his seven-year spell in the East Midlands.”

Signed from Manchester City in August 2017, the popular striker has scored 61 goals for Leicester.

Iheanacho endured a frustrating 2023/24 season with Leicester in which the striker made just 26 appearances in all competitions, scoring just six goals and providing three assists.

Leicester did very well to secure automatic promotion back to the Premier League for the 2024-25 season, with the Foxes on 94 points after a year’s absence from the top flight.

Iheanacho has struggled to contribute and will surely be looking for a move elsewhere when his contract expires this summer.

He also earlier told Leicester fans they will miss him when he leaves. This was during the celebration of their championship success.

Meanwhile, speculation is rife that the former Manchester City star will join Aston Villa in the summer.

Villa manager Unai Emery has reportedly lined up the Nigerian as back-up striker to England international Ollie Watkins.

Iheanacho’s most memorable moment in Leicester colors came when he scored an 89th-minute winner against his former club Man City in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley Stadium in August 2021.

He also won the FA Cup with the Foxes in the 2020/21 season, with the ‘Seniorman’ playing a prominent role in the club’s triumph.
