Live updates as 22-year-old man ‘stabbed’ in head in Sheffield

A ‘police incident’ has closed a road in Sheffield.

A cordon has been erected in Staniforth Road, Darnell, with a number of police officers guarding it. The cordon can be seen stretching from one end of the street to the other. A large amount of police vehicles can also be seen.




Sheffield Online posted a picture of the scene, urging people to avoid. The road was reported to be closed due to a police incident.

Members of the public can be seen inside the cordon while officers carry out enquiries.


South Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment.

South Yorkshire Police are trying to establish whether the man was stabbed or assaulted.

Full police statement as the man was stabbed in the head

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We were alerted by the ambulance service at 4.36pm today (Saturday 8 June) to reports of a stabbing on Staniforth Road in Darnall, Sheffield.

“A 22-year-old man is reported to have suffered a stab wound to the head. He is currently being taken to hospital where his injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

“The Staniforth Road is currently closed while officers carry out their work. Please avoid the area and plan alternate routes if possible.”

Road Closed

Sheffield Online reported that the road was closed. On its Facebook page it said: “Staniforth Road is closed due to a police incident. Please avoid”.
