Thai food is returning to Melton with the opening of a new restaurant – take a look inside

A new Thai restaurant has opened in Melton, bringing “tasty food recognized around the world” to the town, its owner has said. Thai @ 34 recently opened on Sherrard Street downtown.

The restaurant has been called a “delicious, affordable experience” in Thai cuisine by owner Jason Edwards. He said the town had been “lacking its own Thai restaurant” since the last one closed “a few years ago” and his partner, who is Thai, had wanted to open one ever since.

Opening its doors on Thursday 30 May, Jason said: “We also know from personal experience, (with) the popularity of Thai cuisine in Melton since the previous establishment and through the number of local events organized by Melton BID such as events international cuisines, food markets and various shows held in the city, that Melton lacks its own Thai restaurant.

“First of all, this is our home. It has been an aspiration of my Thai partner for several years to bring back Thai cuisine since her friend’s Thai restaurant in town closed a few years ago. Her passion for food and cooking, for friends and family, and desire to reintroduce the flavors of Thailand to Melton led us to take on and fulfill this dream.”

The restaurant serves a range of classic Thai dishes including Pad Thai, Thai Red Curry and Thai Green Curry. Jason said the dish Tom Yum Soup – a spicy and sour soup with mushrooms, lemongrass, galangal, fresh chilli, kaffir lime leaves and lemon juice could be a favourite.
