Four people taken to hospital as fairground ride fails at Lambeth Country Show

Four people were rushed to hospital after a fairground ride went awry at Lambeth Country Show in a serious incident described as “like a horror movie”.

Emergency services were alerted at around 6.20pm to reports that the ride had malfunctioned in Brockwell Park, south London, on Saturday.

Four people were injured and taken to hospital. The Metropolitan Police said they were still awaiting an assessment of their condition. He added that no one is caught in the race.

An eyewitness said MailOnline: “People were running towards us and crying and screaming… I saw a lady with blood running down her face. She had paramedics carry her off the ride.

“As we were leaving they were putting up higher fences where someone was on the floor, they were being attended to by paramedics and the higher fences had black sheets around them and you couldn’t see so someone was really hurt and they were giving them away. privacy.”

Another said: “I’m told a car crashed and all hell broke loose. It was awful. The screams were terrifying. Four people flew and walked through the air. It was like a horror movie.”

The Met said inquiries into the incident were ongoing, with cordons in the area.

The force added that the Health and Safety Executive would be informed.

Describing the incident as “serious”, Lambeth Council said a “thorough” investigation was being carried out to establish the cause of the failure of one of the funfair attractions.

A council spokesman added: “The situation is being closely monitored. The area around the race is secured and the funfair has been closed… Additional safety inspections are being carried out for all rides and attractions at the show.”
